Overview

The Dalmahoy Hotel & Country Club is a beautiful historic hotel situated near Edinburgh Airport, offering a tranquil escape while remaining conveniently close to the city and airport. Guests consistently praise the friendly and helpful staff, spacious and comfortable rooms, and the stunning grounds. The hotel's multiple restaurants provide various dining options, with the Pentland Restaurant frequently receiving positive feedback for its high-quality food. However, some guests mention the hotel's layout can be confusing, and that there are mixed experiences regarding the quality of food and service across the different restaurants. While convenient for airport access, it's worth noting that the hotel is not directly within walking distance or a short shuttle ride, making taxis or private transportation necessary.

Arrived late after a flight and was warmly welcomed. Good directions to room, which was well maintained, spacious and comfortable. Scottish soap company sea kelp toiletries and fluffy towels supplied in bathroom. Overall cleanliness very good. The only disappointments were a shortage of teabags ( quickly rectified by housekeeping) and an inability to get through promptly to the room service team. Once sorted out by reception the meal arrived in a reasonable timescale (though with only one set of cutlery for 2 meals) and was tasty. Breakfast in the Pentland the following day was busy but we were served tea promptly and the breakfast buffet was well stocked with a good variety of items. We would book to stay again and hopefully be able to use the restaurant next time.

I have been travelling all around the globe and I am not expecting much from the hotels where we stay, but for the price, this hotel is terrible. Dirty rooms, towels with holes where you can fit your hands, or dirty like somebody cleaned their shoes. It is also a nightmare to navigate, it is a labyrinth..., service and nor helpful, very snobby, and food in the restaurant horrible. Plus, to entry and exit of the complex is a suicidal adventure. Nothing else to add, if I could, I will give them a -10 instead of a 1. Very disappointed, I was expecting more, but this does not reach event a 1 start hotel by American standards.

Close to the airport after a long travel day. Also close to a park and ride to catch the bus to Edinburgh downtown

Beautiful buildings and surroundings, especially the rolling golf courses. Rooms very nice. A great place to stay, especially if you’re going to airport which is 15 minute drive.

Fabulous and atmospheric if you stay in the manor house with high ceilings, period furniture and views over the golf courses. Not as much fun if you get stuck in the modern annex. I chose this spot and would return again for a restful night before an early flight out of Edinburgh airport. Perfect for that — good food, great bed, and a lively bar. But not a good spot from which to visit Edinburgh itself.

A sewer issue continued the driveway and walking path to the bus for several days. Nothing was mentioned to us to help avoid the area at checkin. It was literally bubbling sewage up into the parking lot from a grate and a large area was covered in muck. Also, our room was in the older section which was unbearably warm. If you have trouble sleeping in hot rooms, avoid the older section of the hotel. The in room fan helped. The bellman was very helpful to us during our stay. Polite, prompt and professional. Checkin team also was helpful and pleasant. Swimming pool closed early for children. Not great for families, especially after a full day in town with hope to enjoy a short pool break in the evening. Overall, this hotel is not particularly geared for young families. That may be welcome feedback for the adult golfers hoping to avoid kids.

We stayed here for 2 nights and used it a base to travel to Edinburgh downtown. The room was difficult to find, many elevators and halls to walk to get to our room. The grounds were nice and lots of car parking. We ate at one of their restaurants and the food was fabulous. We grabbed the city bus at the end of the driveway to go downtown Edinburgh. The bus stop was on the other side of the road, opposite the hotel for those go downtown. The bus coming back ran until midnight and dropped off hotel side at the driveway. The walk to the hotel from the bus stop takes around 20 minutes. Be aware that if you come back in the evening when its dark, the hotel driveway is pitch black with no lights.

We had a wonderful stay at the Dalmahoy. It was our last night in Scotland so we wanted a place close to Edinburgh airport that would be memorable. The grounds are lovely. Wish my husband had had time to play a round of golf. This beats staying at a regular “hotel”, if you will.
