The swim out room saved our trip and kept us content. We traveled with friends and they had one of the private villa-like units with a private pool. Sadly, they ran into an enormous amount of problems with their room. For the money spent, the service was lacking. There was construction throughout the facility that limited guests ability to fully enjoy the resort. The front desk seemed to pick and choose to whom they shared pertinent information about securing dining for the week. We were not made aware of booking reservations for dinner early and many restaurants became booked quickly. George at the front desk, seemed irritated about our inquiries. Our check-in procedure took an incredibly long time after a long and delayed fight. When it was our time to speak with the front desk, the woman behind the desk looked at us and walked away, not even a kind "Un momento or esperate por favor" NOTHING. My wife and I were confronted constantly by employees trying to sell us a time share. They even went so far as to call early in the morning for the first three days. We were polite in saying no thank but they continue every time we came to the main lobby. Most times if you called the front desk, no one answered. Some staff were wonderful and welcoming while others seemed to cater to specific guests. The food at the restaurants on the family side was much better. In general, everything seemed better on the family side.

service was so so. there were staff drinking on the job, some of them were rude. We did not got the breakfast at the room or the decoration of the room. WE CHOOSE THIS HOTEL BECAUSE WE THOUGTH IT WAS ADULTS ONLY. many of the amenities like the night club and the pearls beach club are on the family side. which is disappointed because there are kids all around. we have kids and we want it a vacation with out kids. that was the point of booking a hotel adults only. When we got to room the tv and phone did not work. There was a leak on the room. they don't let you take an uber in the hotel and try to overcharge you the double for a ride to the airport ($15 and they charge 30 dollars.) Food is really good but there is a lot of things to improve

It was 7 of us, we all stayed at the Catalonia Royal Bavaro (Adults Only) and booking through expedia made the process very easy, some of us had visited the resort previously, including myself (Oct, 2022) but had mixed experiences in our past visits. 3 of the guests we were traveling with, this was their first time visiting. This is our overall review.
-Close to the Punta Cana Resort, about a 25 min ride
-Easy check in, we had an issue with one of the rooms (bathroom celing had caved in) but that guest was moved to a new room right away upon walking into the room, there were minor issues like toilet not working properly or A/C not blowing cold air, but the staff were very attentive and attended or resolved issues quickly
-Resort staff were friendly and welcoming, any of our needs they made sure to go out of their way to cater to us. Shouts out to Vive, Nelsa, Angel, the reception, the thalassa, the pool by Tao Cat restaurant, and the food trucks staff.
-Food was great in the restaurants, by the beach at the food trucks it was OK, good enough for a snack, we tried room service and it was delivered in about 40 mins (that was expected) and food was OK as well, this is understandable.
-Pools were kept clean, activities were done (pool work outs) early in the morning by the Thalassa, the water was warm and the bars nearby served frozen drinks (Cocktails and Mocktails) which were great. Staff members would bring your orders when laying on the beach chairs

I love to travel! This was my 6th time to Punta Cana, 1st time staying at the Catalonia. Me and my man stayed in the Suite on the Adults side. We had a great view from our balcony, the room was clean, hot water was amazing in the shower, housekeeping serviced our room everyday. The food was pretty good, so many options to choose from, we loved the drinks— so strong, dont be afraid to ask for more especially if you tipping lol.
There was more positives than negatives, but still some negatives worth pointing out…Some of the things I disliked were the mutiple cats that come out when you eat outside at night, the pool area in the adult side is super quiet (needs a DJ), But we had access to the other part of the Catalonia which had a nightclub so we were ok with that. We avoided the beach, the beach had soooo much seaweed it was nasty and smelly. That was our biggest con as we really wanted to be in the ocean.
Go ahead and book, hopefully they have their beaches clean when you come

As a flight attendant for 25 years I have to say, the service here is the worst I have ever had. The staff will look at you for tips, they will not go above and beyond for anything and the upgrade to the Swim Villas is NOT WORTH IT!! You have your own pool but no waitress to bring drinks to you. When we called to ask if one of the waitresses from either pool area could swing by and bring us drinks, we were told No, You can walk and get a drink yourself. Additionally, we requested a carafe of coffee to be brought to our room as we drink a lot and prefer it cold, again, NO, you can make it yourself. AC in room never goes below 74 degress and there is only hot water for one person to shower. Food is great and the grounds are meticulous, that is the only positive things about this place. I made a hair appointment at the spa when I showed up, they told me they could not accommodate me. I told them I had an appointment and they said, I know, but we are not doing it!
I will be sure to never recommend this place to anyone. The staff need to learn the art of politeness and customer service. Book at TRS Turquesa or Majectic Elegance instead!

Property was beautiful and the staff was magnificent especially Andreina at the buffet and Alberto #1 at Sea Blue. Dinner on the beach was delicious. Only restaurant we did not like because the food was cold and tasted old was Tao Cat. Also staff did make alot of noise early in the morning which was not fun. A lot of people are trying to sell you at all times which we did not like but besides that we enjoyed our stay. If they try to make you schedule your breakfast on the first day, don’t unless you’re interested in purchasing the travelers club.

My stay at the Catalonia was an enjoyable time, the facilities were good for the most part, the staff understood and spoke English mostly, but there were few language barriers, nothing that wasn’t able to be figured out. Everyone was friendly except for the staff that worked specifically with the spa area, which was disappointing. The restaurants were okay, the food was not great, but not terrible. Occasionally we would get sales pitches about excursions, we did one and it was fun and completely safe. I wouldn’t recommend leaving the resort alone, lots of run down and abandoned buildings from the airport to the resort. The resort was very clean, however room service didn’t clean until later in the day. I had no service and the wifi was very poor and selective on when it worked. The TV was a majority Spanish channels, entertainment shows were performed nightly and water sport activities were done around noon time. Drinks were delicious and strong. I had a fun time at the Catalonia hotel.

This hotel iis very nice and I think a good value. We have been very spoiled by Sandals resorts in the past but at half the price this is a great option and we would go back. We upgraded to the swim up option to our junior suite and it was very nice. Food is decent, so is the nightly entertainment. The family resort is right next foor (5 min walk)
With lots of additional options for everything. The adult side is definitely more quiet and relaxing.
The minibar was not what i would call one, but walking to the bars was alao fine. Tou must upgrade to the "Exclusive Travelers Club" to get the good liquor, btw. They also do not offer any airport transfer options but taking a taxi from the airport was easy.
Altogether a great trip doe the price!

Loved the property and the staff. The food was decent too, and I highly recommend dinners at Terrace and Mikado. We will definitely be back!
Two things that I didn’t enjoy were the fact that smoking is permitted in all outdoor areas, including poolside. This was an inconvenience.
The other was the ardent upselling efforts to their Exclusive Travel Club. We were told that we were being taken to breakfast at a beachfront restaurant on the property and it turned into a meal and a 3 hour pitch for a ludicrously expensive travel membership that required a down payment of over USD 5000 and monthly payments for 36 months!
We got a reusable grocery bag and a 30 min massage for our time.
If they try to talk you into attending this sales pitch, don’t do it (unless you have bags of money!)
Besides that, loved the experience and would come back in a heartbeat!
