Overview

The University Square Hotel has received overwhelmingly negative feedback, with guests reporting significant issues affecting cleanliness, safety, and overall condition. Recurring problems include unclean rooms and hallways, broken elevators, a lack of maintenance, and safety concerns in the surrounding area. Many reviewers mention the presence of unsavoury characters, drug paraphernalia, and even violence near the property. Although some found the staff to be friendly and accommodating, the extensive reports of poor conditions, including unclean rooms, malfunctioning facilities, and safety concerns severely outweigh any positive experiences. Budget-conscious travellers should be aware of the substantial risks associated with this hotel.

This property is very outdated. There were pigeons living in the icemaker, there was mold around my tub, there were broken down vehicles parked in the parking lot, there wasn't any daily breakfast as advertised on their website, should I go on... The current owner of this property needs to sell it off.

More people would stay here if the parking was gated with security, but it not locked or gated parking.

I ended up here for lack of finding a campsite anywhere close by, so I really wouldn’t say my standards are high. Before I even got to the room, the card swipe for the exterior door didn’t work, the elevator was out of service, vagrants were milling around in the parking lot, and the whole place seemed in disrepair. When I finally got into the building, it reeked of weed and cigarettes and was visibly dirty. The room itself only had one working lamp, but even that was enough light to see the layer of hair, dust, and dirt coating every surface. Thankfully, I had my camping gear with me, so I put down my sleeping pad and tarp on the floor because I didn't trust that I wouldn’t catch something from the bed. This place is hands-down the worst motel I’ve ever had in my life

Broken elevator, stairway carpeting was filthy, sketchy people wandering about the parking lot area and around the premises. The room key reader to access the building from the parking lot didn’t work properly but finally worked after 8-10 tries.

Based on my experience, this place was ready to be demolished. You would think that having multiple buildings and three floors, that one of them would have a working elevator. The restaurant which is pictured on line was closed down and not even breakfast. The pool was now filled with plants instead of water. I use a cane and have a very bad back, we had to climb up three flights of stairs. We finally got to our room, decided on a hot bath, turned on the fauscet and dirty water and rocks flowed out. Our worst stay ever!

I did not like anything about this place. It was super loud with people partying all night long. The pull had plants in it instead of water, the tub was dirty with a ring around it. There was people drinking and smoking in the parking lot of the hotel. I was not aware that the hotel is half a hotel and half an apartment unit. I was so uncomfortable. Do t ever come here.

I would not recommend it to anybody. Unsafe and very outdated. The room was very old and dirty. There were homeless people living in the parking lot area.

This was probably the most unusual hotel that I've ever stayed at. That doesn't mean bad, per say. I can tell that the manager and staff are all really trying. It's not in the greatest part of town but I knew that going in. It's a good place if you need somewhere to sleep and there are a lot of businesses close by. Don't count on all of the bells and whistles but I think the price reflects that fairly. It would have been nice to have a little better parking area. There was some mold in the bathroom of my room. The elevator was broken and looked to be for some time. This place seems to be struggling a little but they are making it work. The room had a fridge, microwave, coffee maker, TV with cable. They are on the right track, it just seems to be problems with tenants and possible issues with funding because I see a lot potential at this location. The manager is a very friendly and accommodating Vietnamese immigrant from after the Vietnam war. He was kind enough to tell me about his life a little and how he came to become the manager at this location. The manager personally changed my sheets when the housekeeping did not. Every time I asked them for something I was helped and they even changed my room with no problem because my first room didn't have ventilation. The staff are friendly and I can tell that they are trying to make this place work. I wish Gordon Ramsay could go in and point out ways to improve. For what I was there for, this location worked for me.

Super dirty, noisy, unsafe area. It had been a shooting right behind their parking lot a few days before, when we arrived they were doing an altar 😕
