Overview

The Sandman Hotel & Suites Kelowna offers spacious rooms and free parking, attracting many guests. While some praise the comfortable beds and convenient location near restaurants and shopping, other reviews highlight significant issues. These include maintenance problems (AC units, plumbing, and cleanliness of the rooms), a lack of upkeep in common areas (overflowing bins, dirty carpets), and safety concerns (homeless individuals in the parking lot). Guests have reported issues with obtaining pet-friendly rooms, and some have experienced problems with their reservations. The hotel's amenities, including the pool and hot tub, have also received negative feedback regarding their cleanliness. The onsite restaurant is noted positively by some but is not connected to the hotel building. The hotel presents a mixed bag of experiences, ranging from positive comments regarding specific aspects such as comfortable beds to strongly negative comments relating to maintenance and overall cleanliness.

The part of the hotel I stayed in was older. Which is fine BUT my door didn’t close unless I threw my body weight against it or heaved it shut from the outside. The bathroom was clean-ish. Hair and dirt on floor. Beds were good. Furniture old and chipped. Lights didn’t work (overhead in particular. Carpet was dirty. But what iced the cake was the deplorable installation of the AC unit. Tacked in place, full of dirt and what appeared to be mould. Holes all around dirty and it looked like trim was used to cover some of the bad spots - but haphazardly tacked on. And noisy. Room was also directly across from ice machine which was a congregation point late at night. And garbage. Garbage bags in the halls all the time. Unsightly. Almost as unsightly as the homeless under my window and in the parking lot all night carrying on. I also told the front desk that there was a homeless person digging through garbage right in the driveway to the hotel. My concern was shrugged off and ignored. The girl who checked me in was great. And the food from bar one and Denny’s was quite good.

If you book a “king Suite” in the tower there are two separate layouts. The layout in the photos which is bigger and then a separate layout that gives you a kitchen so small it’s barely usable. Was put on the ground floor with a door that opens to the parking lot.

The room needed some cosmetic repair and the parking was overflowing. The shower was wonderful and the bed comfy.

I’ve stayed here many times but it’s not a place I will again. I didn’t expect perfection but I do expect clean. We had mustard stains on our carpet, corners aren’t actually swept, overall dusty and dingy. It’s not been kept up and it’s too bad. You exit out thinking you’re going to parking lot and end up at the back of a convenience store and Chinese buffet. All we could do was laugh. The bartender was great and we enjoyed hanging with her a few hours. But this hotel needs love.

Room felt very dated. Old furniture, scuffed walls, spider crawling around in the ceiling light fixture above bed, slight smell upon room entry, air conditioner unit was so loud it sounded like a hurricane was brewing in the corner of the room. Had to turn it off completely in order to sleep. Over all feeling of uncleanliness in the room. We were there on a quick overnight and only spent 7 hours in the room thank goodness. Staff was average upon check in. Free parking was a plus I guess and location is good if you want to be central and close to shopping. Would not stay again as the feeling of our room was just too dated and worn for our liking. Got it on an Expedia member reduced price but the price was still high in comparison to the room quality for sure!

Great stay, got an easy room upgrade when we came forward with being unsatisfied with our first room. The location is right across from the Kelowna mall which seemed to have constant RCMP and police in the area. Sketchy people walking around the next door McDonald’s parking lot at night. Otherwise the experience inside the housing was great.

We had a pool side balcony and unfortunately the pool area was filled with people who did not care about how their behaviors affected others. They were noisy abd very ignorant. The staff were great, but the people carried on being noisy until after midnight. The staff spoke to them twice but it took me going on my balcony and telling the people to leave the area. I got a grandvtotal of 2 hours sleep before an all day flight. I was, and am not happy with the stay.
