Carambola Beach Resort St. Croix, US Virgin Islands

Both of our rooms were infested with flying ants and other random bugs. They were literally falling from the light fixture into the bed. We'd wake up or come back to the room and there were bugs. Toilet was clogged, maintenance didn't come until 1 day later after calling and going to the front desk. Food/bar was good. Overall, will never stay there again!

Taxi service must be requested for travel to any other part of the island and is not included. Breakfast is not included and is $30 per person. There is one restaurant on the resort (with bar) but we preferred to travel for breakfast into town (christen stead). Resort itself was nice, beautiful beach at walking distance.

One of my favorite trips so far!! Beautiful place, great tourist adventures available, some of the best people I've ever met. Will definitely stay at carambola next time we travel to St. Croix. A perfect place to stay of you're looking for peace, relaxation and scenic escape from reality. You have to try the Gecko’s island adventures down there too!!!

There are SO many friendly people working here. Dave was the first person I met. He gave me a ride from the parking lot right when I got here and took me back on our way out. Erald was an awesome bar tender. Colin making omelettes in the morning was always a great way to start the day. Gave me a big hug when I said goodbye. Hakeem at the restaurant for dinner made this trip great! Thank you!

The property is gorgeous, the staff was not as attentive but they got the job done. Advertised a manager’s reception but when showed we were told they were short staffed. Take the flyer down if you are short staffed and there will not be a reception.

I just got back from Carambola, and there was much anticipation about how it would be after reading many of the reviews. Let me start with the positives: - The views were absolutely spectacular and very quiet, which was what my wife and I were looking for. - the staff was friendly and helpful. I know many people said they were rude, but we didn't experience any worker there who was nothing more than accommodating. - We stayed in room 25; it was clean, well-kept, and had hot showers all day and night. Some people said their showers were cold, but we didn't have that experience. We only stayed for three nights, so we never requested room service. - on the way to the hotel, we asked the taxi to stop at a market, and we picked up alcohol, snacks, and other essentials, so we were happy doing our own thing for the most part. - The food was your typical bar food, and the drinks/bar service was no wait every time I wanted a drink (which was rare since we had our stuff). - The beach was quiet and clean, and the water was gorgeous. They did have limited umberalls, so we found shade under the palm trees and enjoyed every minute of relaxation on the beach. - Our taxi drivers were excellent! Again, this is what we wanted for our 10th anniversary: a secluded, peaceful, quiet, and beautiful beach atmosphere. Now, if you are looking for something more, this place may not be for you. It is a far ride to town; there is not much to do, and it's not a typical resort. Hope this helps

Just delightful! Beautiful property, beach, and pool. It is quite secluded and you need to use a taxi or rent a car if you need groceries, or prefer to eat away from the hotel. Very pricey food and drinks, but I suppose that’s to be expected. The property should consider adding a gift shop for snacks, other essentials.

The service from customer service to housekeeper to bar service were terrible. I read the reviews and just thought it was travelers that had never been to the Caribbean and did not understand island time. This was not that. This was almost none. Went with 3 other couples and 2 of us got maid serve and that was twice the entire week. Even though we askand were told we would get maid service every day. Hour waits for food is to be expected and 30 min waits for drink orders. Went off resort many times and recieved excellent service. The views and beach are awesome. This is not a Marriott hotel. Treat it like its a VRBO with no services and you will have a great time.

We loved this hotel and are already looking to go back. The staff was very friendly and always greeted us, the gentleman always offered us a ride in the golf cart anytime they saw us walking, and the bar/restaurant staff took the time to answer any questions we had about places to go or things to do. The rooms were extremely comfortable with the air conditioning and 2 ceiling fans. One of our nights we had torrential downpour from about 4:30pm until 8pm but we never had any issues with water coming in or bugs after the fact. We’ve traveled to 20 different places in the last 10 years together and this one is in our top 2! (Tied with Curacao but beats out Jamaica, DR, St Lucia, Cancun, Tulum and Riveria Maya to name a few

Carambola is not worth what you are charging your customers. I truly wish i could say we enjoyed our stay here but the reality is that aside the beautiful and clean resort that it is (although the pool was not kept up and dirty often) The service was extremely slow and poor. While the food at The Saman restaurant was tasty and infact delicious we waited over an hour for it because of a “mix up in the kitchen” that seemed to have happened every single night while we were there. When we were sat down we noticed some people were tended better than others, we didn’t even get bread or water until I asked for it. The only thing I would say was punctual was the taxi service whenever we ordered one. My fiancé and I choose this resort after finding it in Expedia, we’ve stayed at several hotels in the past and this was by far the worst hotel experience I’ve ever encountered and we will not be returning. What’s unfortunate is that it really is a beautiful place to stay, if it were ran better and the price was more reasonable for what you’re getting I would return. If you do choose to book this place for your stay I don’t recommend more than 3 days, and I do recommend that you leave the resort for food and activities since the hotel doesn’t offer any of those options.
