Overview

Homewood Suites by Hilton San Diego Downtown/Bayside offers guests a pleasant stay with a convenient location near the waterfront, Little Italy, and with easy access to the airport. Many appreciate the spacious rooms suitable for families, the complimentary breakfast, and the friendly and helpful staff. The outdoor area with a fire pit and games is also a plus for families. However, the hotel's mandatory valet parking at $50 per day is a significant drawback for many guests, as is the lack of self-parking. Some guests also reported maintenance issues in their rooms and a need for more thorough cleaning.

Our bathroom door wouldn’t shut all the way and the sliding part broke twice. We also had no idea valet parking is not optional and is $55 per day. We were not prepared for that so please plan accordingly. Other than that it was a lovely stay. The restaurant was nice and had great food and great service. They had nice seating where you could sit by a beautiful fire. There were also yard games like fooseball, ping pong, oversized jenga, and oversized connect 4. We were not allowed a late check out either so we had to figure out something to do for 4 hours until we had to be at the airport. If you want a late check out ask early and not day of check out and it might be better.

The data breach hit this property hard. When checking in I had to be escorted to my room as keys didn’t work in elevator or room door. This was for a couple of days and then they could only provide me with one key. Don’t get too hyped for breakfast. Not hot. Bread items were not fresh - even some hard. There was mold stains in the shower, peeling wallpaper in the bathroom. It even a scrub pad in the kitchen. I was there for work and valet was slow to bring car, was late to arrive at work the one day I had a car. Uber drivers do not a have a clear direction for pick up or drop offs - but that’s a whole other story. For the price I paid and past stays for same type of properties I expected better. Their employees are not happy and voiced this to me - more than one. Never have I ever had that happen in 25 years of travel for business. Makes a person wonder what’s really happening here.

The property and guest rooms were fantastic however we were only given one key card for each room we reserved. They said their system was down and it was disappointing that it wasn’t fixed right away. The parking also was disappointing as it was a third party that charges ridiculous price.

Overall property was good walkable distance to little Italy and easy access to highways to beaches, parks outlets. Only issues we had was how expensive parking was for valet and we only had one key card due to BSOD IT outage and they couldn't figure out problem even 3 days later. The breakfast is ok, but low quality food and long waits on bread toaster since they only have one, recommend buy a few more. Beds are ok not the most comfortable, like the big shower and kitchen facility. Kids enjoyed foosball and ping pong in lobby.

It was a good plase to stay. The only bad thing was the advertising of Parking, On the ad it said "Parking Available" to me meaning i could park on the hotels premises. Unfortunately no where did i say it was vallet parking $55.00 a night. I didn't like that. I woukd of went some where else if u had known.

I would like to gave my appreciate and thanks to the night and overnight staff there hands down there professionalism and understanding as well as being available to me and my family when we needed help was absolutely the best . Please let them know to keep doing what there doing. My father has dementia so getting out of the house is out of his comfort zone and isn't always easy ,but the staff there made our stay enjoyable and relaxing. They accommodated to our needs wonderful service and our room was immaculate so clean so fresh everything we needed was in the room .I travel a lot and it's been a very long time since I've stayed at a hotel that I can say, I'll definitely go back there or refer others to stay there ..

Advantages. The property is conveniently located close to the major attractions, shops and restaurants. The hotel offered a good breakfast buffet. Disadvantages. There is no street or affordable parking available. The only option is $55 a day valet. The housekeeping is every other day. We stayed at the studio with full kitchen. The trash quickly piled up. I called the service desk at 7am, the trash was picked up at 7pm. The hotel employee suggested leaving the trash outside the room door (!?). There is a railroad behind the hotel. It gets noisy. I felt like we were sleeping at the train station. The windows can not be opened. The city view included train tracks, portable toilets and trash bins. The air conditioner was louder than the train. I woke up every time it turned on and off. I will not be staying there again.
