Hotel Spalentor

Great place and great location. Taxis r crazy expensive. Uber is better but Uber xl to airport was a ripoff.

My wife and I booked a one night stay at the end of a cruise from Amsterdam to Basel. We arrived at the hotel at 10 AM and were pleasantly surprised to find that our room was available for us. The hotel clerk was most helpful, providing us with passes for the local bus and tram system and directions on how to get to the meeting point for our walking tour. When I asked about how to get a cab to the airport, she offered to book one for us but pointed out that the bus trip was free and simple (it was!) and the bus stop was 100 yards from our hotel door. The room was clean, spacious and very nicely appointed. The hotel has an in-house bar but no restaurant, and in-house food options are limited. This was a total non-issue, as it is located a short, pleasant walk from many shops and restaurants and we were able to get a good feel of the city in the one day we were there. It may have been a little bit pricier than some other hotel options but given its proximity to some picturesque areas and the convenience of transport to BSL airport, it more than makes up for any price savings. Worth a look if you're planning a stay in Basel.

the staff were great - nothing was too much effort. The rooms were super comfortable, especially the bed! And the showers were top notch.Location ws perfect - short walk from free bus from the airport and close to old town. The only gripes were I did find a cockroach in my room - which could have come in on my clothes or through the window and it was the only one I saw. Also the breakfast was served all cut up into bite size pieces? I found this odd and it took ages to manuver small pieces of fruit, cheese etc. onto your plate.

The Hotel Spalentor was fantastic! Our rooms were ready upon arrival (earlier than check in). Refreshing after a long day of traveling from California to Frankfurt to Basel, Switzerland. Old town was close for walking. To restaurants, bars. The staff at HSpalentor were helpful & nice. Rooms are spacious & clean. I would highly recommend! We were there to board a Viking River cruise, 2 nights .

Super friendly front desk, explained all the quirks like parking (call ahead!) great room, all details in place, comfy bed, great temp controls, robes, slippers, mini bar, tons of plugs , 150 tv channels, solid euro breakfast at an extra charge (they are upfront) hood elevator, shower, all amazing. Can’t wait to go back.

I generally don't give properties good reviews based on staff (I expect professionalism and hospitality). But reception at Hotel Spalentor really made the stay very pleasant. They were exceptionally friendly, accommodating, and helpful. We would definitely stay there again if we return to Basel. The hotel is close to public transportation but the old town (shopping and restaurants) is easily walkable. The parking and pet fees are very reasonable. Checkin was super easy, parked out front to unload luggage) and their available parking garage is close, secure, and easy to maneuver. The bed was comfortable. The window shades allow for excellent room darkening. Hotel Spalentor, staff, location, comfort, convenience, made this Basel visit better than our first. Notes; the wall-mounted TV in our room functioned but could use an update. The water temp at the sink faucet is warm (not hot) for washing hands and shaving. The water temp for the bath/shower was plenty hot. I think this must be a boiler setting or something, not a problem but when I was shaving I was thinking "I REALLY hope the shower/bath water is hoter than this. It was.

Great property, very comfortable rooms, easy parking, and quick walk to old town

Really great location, walkable to old town Basel. Unfortunately, we arrived on a Sunday and only had the one night. And Sunday in Basel is pretty much closed for shopping and there are limited restaurant options. This is not a negative to the hotel whose staff located an open restaurant for us (excellent, Florentina) and gave us maps. They also arranged for a taxi to pick us up at 4:45am the next morning as we had an early flight. We were able to check-out in advance and just leave our keys at the desk as we left. Very Accommodating and would stay there again.

Great hotel next to the Spalentor and close to the inner city. With the free tram ticket commuting is a breeze. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Easy to access by car with on-site parking.
