My family and I have been staying in the area while visiting other family at the UAB hospital. We stayed here 1 night and it was absolutely fantastic! Beautiful building, comfortable and clean rooms, and friendly staff! The breakfast was also great! So we decided to stay here again the following night. While the room was still great, I couldn’t say the same about the service the secone time. The woman at the front desk seemed to be in a bad mood and it was very obvious. She was not very friendly and had a bad attitude with us at check in. There was a small mix up with our room reservations and when I had kindly mentioned it, she immediately got very defensive. I told her it was totally ok; mistakes happen. But her attitude remained the same. When she gave me the new room key she slapped it down on the counter and said “7th floor” and immediately turned away without saying another word and walked into her back office and closed the door. So that was a little disappointing. Again, I still find this place to be wonderful and will definitely recommend it to other travelers. I just hope whoever the woman was behind the desk has some better days.

The hotel was beautiful. The location was downtown and across from a beautiful park. The room was large and gorgeous. The bed was so comfortable, I didn't want to leave. The breakfast was excellent. The staff was friendly and helpful. The only hesitation we had was the parking. When I made the reservation, I was not aware that parking was not available at the hotel, unless you valet park. We were surprised by this. We parked on the street for our stay. I think this should be highlighted when you consider this hotel. Overall, the stay was wonderful.

It was a bit pricey for a Hampton Inn, $38 for parking

There is ONLY ONLY VALET PARKING at this hotel.
BOTH front desk clerks had NO knowledge of any parking other than the street on the weekends. They had no knowledge of the way the garages worked even though we ended up using the garage where the valet uses. It’s $14 a day to park and resets each night at midnight. The parking website and app/texting (run by air garage) was awkward to use, the garage was VERY insecure.
Front desk had NO recommendations for anywhere to eat. They just gave me a brochure. I inquired as to where they would eat and one clerk spoke up and said “A Brazilian Steakhouse”
For Breakfast : Keilbasa sausage only protein choice.
Coffee was lava hot - as in “call the McDonald’s Coffee Spill lawyer hot cause this is an easy settlement before court” - hot.
Certain aspects of the hotel are old and unkept. Vents are rusty, shower head looks a bargain bin plastic special and was placed too far out and not adjustable.
Hotel was super noisy until well into 12:30 and we are from the eastern time zone so it was 1:30 at home. It was hotel residents yelling at each other without any intervention.
The hotel is exactly ½ mile from the convention center.
It’s an easy walk but if you’re paying this money you’d be better to stay at the Westin at the convention center with parking and better experience.

This is the second time I have stayed at the Tutwiler. Both time have been very pleasant! Large clean suites. Excellent service. Beautiful hotel. Slightly outdated, but not deteriorated. This hotel is in walking distance to the BJCC. Note, valet parking cost nearly $40, so add that to your cost, but that is not uncommon in cities. The staff was very considerate. I did not have any concerns or needs, but check in was easy and smooth.

Very nice hotel. Conviently located near the legacy arena. Valet service is $38 overnight. The other option is street parking. Loved the esthetics! Be aware though, the piano in the lobby does not have a sign saying not to play it, but the hotel staff will get onto you if you do.

Only issue was parking, but they offer valet, so there are other options. Nothing to get upset about.

Overall good hotel, but no frig/microwave. The parking rate of $37.50 was a bit excessive. Sheets didnt fit the bed so kept coming off.

This is an older hotel no modern finishings but was very clean. The front desk staff were very friendly and went above and beyond with answering questions and trying to find out information we requested. Although we didnt valet, the attendants were busy and worked hard. Our room wasnt cleaned the day as planned and we got in around 7pm and called and they sent someone right up and she cleaned the room with a great attitude. For the Classic it was in a great location for shuttle services and other places we needed to go uptown. Will be back again.
