Seeing the reviews, i was a bit nervous but id consider this a 3 star. Rooms were clean, staff friendly, free parking just a bit outdated.
Continental breakfast was pretty standard, nothing fancy but puts something in your belly

The only problem we had is the parking was super tight and hard to get to. There's only about 20 or 25 spots and they're small

Being a seasoned traveler, I’m always looking for a good hotel to stay at that won’t break the bank. Howard Johnson’s by Wyndham in the midway district of San Diego is just such property. As soon as you arrive you’re greeted by a professional and knowledgeable front desk staff that makes checking in easy. There’s plenty of offstreet parking if you decide to rent a vehicle. Upon getting into the room spacious and has everything you need for your stay; specifically, big screen TV, refrigerator, microwave, iron and ironing board, Walgreens, all the toiletries that One would need. The bed was very comfortable and it had a heater and air conditioner depending on the season. There is a pool, ice, machine and laundry, facility on grounds, as well as a small business center. Did I mention that they have a continental breakfast daily, including a waffle station that will get you on your way in good form. So if you’re looking for a great hotel, that’s centrally located to major attractions within the San Diego area look no further than Howard Johnsons By Wyndham!

We've stayed here a few times now and always enjoy it. Easy, fast check in. Plenty of parking. Walking distance to many things.

Check in was great. Staff friendly. Breakfast was good but needed eggs and bacon. Located on the airport take off path but couldn't hear when inside. Will stay again if the need arises.

Prior to this stay I contacted the hotel to confirm we had 2 rooms next to each other or at least a joint door. The reason for this was because I had my son 15 yrs and two of friends. They confirmed they where. Well when we go check in we where give room 240 and 244 😣. The front desk girl helping us refused to do anything to accommodate what the prior front desk girl had said. She bluntly said these are the last rooms I have are you taking them or not. Granted I was upset because my son and his two friends where going to be 4 rooms away all underage. I had to take the rooms because it was already 930pm. Once I signed for the room the girl started telling me how she was trying to help accommodate me and help me and I’m being dramatic and I’m a grown women acting that way. I was baffled and told her look my concern is that my son and his friends are underage and I went by what your prior coworker informed me of. When we go to the rooms my neighbors where having a full party until like 3am and since I hardly slept being worried about my son and his friends I was checking on them constantly. I noticed their neighbors where also having a full blown party past 4am. It’s was the worst experience I’ve had at this hotel and I will never return. Forgot to mention when I came back to my car to get our bags the front desk girl gets in her car blasting music and driving recklessly in the parking lot.

In general, it was a good stay once you are in your room. The staff is friendly and the parking is great. The only issue is the the surrounding areas,
