Overview

Based on the reviews, the Baymont by Wyndham South Bend does not appear to be a suitable hotel. Numerous reviews cite significant issues such as uncleanliness (mold, hair in showers, dirty rooms), safety concerns (unlocked doors, questionable individuals in the parking lot and lobby), and poor maintenance (chipping bathtubs, broken hairdryer, etc). While some reviewers mention a convenient location for the University of Notre Dame, the overwhelming consensus points to a sub-standard experience that outweighs any positive aspects.

This stay was awful, the pictures did not represent the hotel. The room was dirty, bathtub was chipping and mold on the bathroom walls. Had an overall unsafe, dirty feeling to the place. They are in the middle of a remodel. At 430am my wife and I were woken to someone playing loud music in the parking lot. When I reported it to the front desk they acted concerned, then it happened the second night as well. I tried to get a refund and stay elsewhere but they would not approve the refund and I didn't want to lose $600. I paid $270/night to be there for a ND game and this is NOT a $70/night hotel. I truly feel ripped off by everyone involved as hotels.com nor the hotel would do anything to help with this situation. Hotels did offer $85 in points, this does not help ease the pain of this atrocious stay.

Rooms are in the process of being renovated. Hotel books out majority of their rooms to house migrants who are extremely noisy during the evenings with their music and drinking in the hallways and parking lot. If you’re travelling with women and children it’s not safe for them to roam around the property without getting accosted multiple times by the drunk migrants

“You get what you pay for” is the definition of this hotel. Price is cheap, but I would have rather spent a little more to have a nicer hotel. Black mold all over bathroom ceilings and walls. Tub faucet falling off. Back door is completely unlocked and open for anyone to walk in without a key. And do NOT stay here if you’re staying by yourself. I (a woman traveling alone) was put on the first floor with a window facing a dark alley with curtains that didn’t shut all the way. Hairdryer didn’t work, and they couldn’t get a replacement so I had to go to work with wet hair. The bed at least seemed clean and bug free, the lady that worked the night desk was nice, and the free breakfast was okay, but that’s about it for the nice things I can say about this room.

There was no hot water in tho entire Hotel for more than 24 hours, and it still wasn’t on when we checked out. There was mold around the sulicone seal in the bathtub and large areas in the floor of the tub were peeling off. There was construction being done below our room at 9 a.m. that weren’t warned of either. The parking lot was covered in deep snow but never plowed. NOT IMPRESSED

The location is great to walk to campus but that's the only upside of this hotel. It is not safe. There are too many people wandering around in the parking lot at night. The back door was broken so you don't need a key to get into the hotel. The long term guests seem to find that easier, I guess. The rooms were grungy. Public haors in the shower. Musty damp air from the air condition. I wore my shoes except when I was actually in the bed. Hallway carpets were stained and gross. Thankfully I didn't see any bed bugs but I'll still pray I didn't unexpectedly leave with some. We were booked for 2 nights and decided to leave after the football game rather than stay another night in this place.

I am seeking a refund. I did not stay at this hotel. Upon arriving the conditions I found were not even close to what was advertised. The property was poorly maintained and with the exception of a few construction vehicles in the parking lot the property seemed vacant. When I went inside to seek help nobody was around to provide service and there were some people milling around that seemed in distress. I couldn't tell if they were actually staying there or were homeless and seeking shelter in the lobby area.

While a discount option, this place felt tired and worn out. Very dark parking lot at night. Rooms had worn out vibe - with low quality repairs: for example, the tired worn bathtub looks like partial grouting was repaired by a 13 year old. Place made feel SAD. Bed was less than average comfort. Breakfast buffet was a joke - while many items offered, it offered a "soup kitchen" vibe; food buffet felt very unclean and looked like the food had been sitting out for 8 hours, like a bacteria breeding ground...Man walked thru the lobby barefoot to stand out on the asphalt and smoke - this captured the essence of this budget spot.
