Van Der Valk Hotel Charleroi Airport

Superb location for Charleroi airport, 5 minute car ride. Here on business and it was a nice stay. Clean big rooms, friendly staff and high level cuisine in the restaurant. I even came back in the same week as needed to stop one more night near airport. Highly reccomended and my go to Charleroi Airport stop over.

Found Hotel next to Charleroi airport very convenient for business. The staff were very pleasant and welcoming in reception, bar & restaurant. Room was very clean and we’ll equipped.

It was a disastrous booking.. checked in ok.. staff friendly. Room was ok.. nothing special. Dinner was disgraceful., the manager placed us at the table but didn’t have the courtesy to tell us that there was a problem in the kitchen. We waited for 1 hour and 45 minutes for 2 courses.. the tapas starter was good but my main course was atrocious.. my tuna was badly cooked, no flavour and a sauce that was hot at one side and cold on the other… obviously it was microwaved.. my partners Cod was tasteless.. I complained in a friendly manner but no gesture was made.. I stay in hotels approximately 100 nights per year.. it’s very rare that I have service as bad as this.. and to make matters worse the next morning I took what I thought was a hotel courtesy bus to the airport.. it was a taxi with a fixed price of 25€ for a 6 minute ride.. this is an absolute ripoff.. this visit is best forgotten.. thankfully there are other options

I was under the impression that the hotel was within walking distance from the airport, however, it was an expensive cab drive away.

Taxi connection to the airport is a scam. Young guys at the reception were really great, can't say the same for the older.

Hotel claims to have shuttle to and from the airport. They don't, they use a ver bad taxi company. I called the hotel to pick us up at 11:15 pm and didn't show up until 12:35 am. They refused to reimburse me if I took another taxi. So, to apace us, they gave breakfast, which we normally don't eat. No discounts for the room nor return to airport. I would not recommend them.

We'll start with the highs: Probably the best shower I've had. Took a little while to warm up, but had really good pressure and felt really nice. You could use both the shower and the handheld shower at the same time. The is no grips on the floor of the shower so it becomes slippy with soap. If I'd have been travelling with my wife then the separate toilet and bathroom is a good feature. The room I booked was spacious. Lots of pillows on the bed and a good area to work. A few of the TV channels didn't work, but as the TV is a smart TV then I just used the YouTube app. Live entertainment in the restaurant was good and they played a wide range of music. The lows: Probably the worst meal of my trip. Nothing really suited my preference from the starters menu so I ended up ordering Nachos. They should have called it chips and salsa as thats all it came with. Very plain and unappealing. Only ended up eating 1/5 of them. I then ordered ribs as again nothing took May fancy. Burgered and beefed out from my trip. Some chicken would have been nice, settled on Ribs. When they arrived they were so dry. The portion size was good though. Chips and salad was nice. Didn't get any real attention from the waiting staff to ensure the food was OK. I saw burgers going past that looked like they could have been a better choice. The food and service was excellent. My expectations are modest for airport hotels but Van der Valk set a new standard. The restaurant was super, the staff attentive and the menu quality and reasonable.A special mention to Mo on reception, who went beyond his duties to recover my mobile phone from a local taxi firm who were not about to return it. His persistence and skill meant that I didn't have a very difficult evening without cards and a phone. Great job Mo!
