Protea Hotel by Marriott O.R. Tambo Airport

The staff in the hotel are fantastic and it was apparent that everyone really seemed to enjoy working here. Everyone was super friendly and made you feel welcome from the moment you arrived until you left. We stayed at the hotel on Heritage Day and noted in the morning that a BBQ was being set up next to the pool area. At lunchtime a large number of staff appeared, some wearing traditional outfits. They had obviously been given the opportunity to enjoy this special day with a BBQ provided and music to dance to which was great to see. Well done to the Hotel management in regard to all of the above. The hotel has a quirky aviation theme to it from the "runway" in the lobby, to the seats and decor in the bar and restaurant, and of course the rooms with some having a view of the airport. A free shuttle bus runs every 30 minutes to and from the airport and takes less than 10 minute. The buffet breakfast was excellent and in the evening there was an option of either a buffet or a choice from the a la carte menu. Thanks for making our stay so enjoyable after our cancelled flight. Keep up the great work!

Nice airport styling. Friendly staff and confortable dining and bar area. Room styling was nice with an aero theme.

This was a great place to layover for a day to rest and recharge. The staff was top notch!!! We would highly recommend it.

Nice hotel, convenient location near airport, free regular shuttle

Protea was a great place to stay. I came with my husband mom and sister and we thought it was very nice and very clean. We also had dinner in the restaurant which was delicious. The shuttle service to and from O.R Tambo was great as well.

Clean, comfortable with helpful and friendly staff. The main reason we chose this hotel was the airport shuttle which worked very well. Only downside was the rather small room if ours was typical

Just a short stay near the airport . Was quite hard to find the pickup spot for the free transfer and we were hassled by taxi drivers and “information “ helpers in the airport all of which wanted tipping . Was very annoying to be honest . Needs better signposting . Hotel itself is isn’t renovation and I don’t recall being informed about that at time of booking or another time after . Lifts took forever and then were full when they did stop . Aircon wasn’t working when I got to room but they did fix it during dinner . Pretty basic . Would probably stay at intercontinental if staying at airport again .

Stayed here before and enjoyed the cozy bar and dining area, tender tasty steak and cold draft beer, excellent buffet breakfast and tidy room. However the hotel is under construction and a bit disorganized. New/temporary dining area was a bit hard to locate on the other side of hotel; buffet dinner and dining area itself was mediocre. Room was nice, good water pressure, hot shower, no complaints about room. I like the proximity to the airport after a long haul flight, however it’s tricky to find using google maps. I drove few laps around the area until I found it, jet lagged and all.

Tariff: super affordable Convenience (closeness to airport and shuttle): fantastic Breakfast buffet: super awesome (met the chef, he was immensely pleased with my compliments) Service: super awesome (left a plug adapter on my last visit, they traced it and returned it; room keys were delivered to us when we sat at the restaurant) Cafe/Bistro/Bar: staffing can improve since 1 person cannot handle all the guests (drinks, cocktails, meal orders, payments, …) .
