Overview

The Cairn Hotel Newcastle Jesmond is a popular choice for its convenient location, a short walk from Newcastle city centre. Guests appreciate the modern, clean rooms and friendly, helpful staff. Many describe the rooms as well-equipped and comfortable, particularly highlighting the good bathrooms and comfortable beds. However, the hotel's limited parking is a frequent concern, with several guests reporting difficulty finding a space, often having to park off-site. Some reviewers have mentioned that they were allocated rooms in a sister hotel, the Carlton Hotel, which was less favourably reviewed. The Carlton Hotel is described as having dated decor, smaller rooms, and some maintenance issues. The hotel's location in a busy area may also contribute to noise issues for some.

Got there and no parking was available (in fairness it does state “first come, first serve”) so drove around for 20-30 mins to try and find a parking space local to the hotel. We stayed in the block across the road to the main hotel. Stains all over the wall with damp by the windows. Dust over the furniture, well…… what’s left of it. Best part about the room was the fact the shower was lovely.

Nice locations, parking spaces a bonus. We were put in the sister hotel across the road, room was clean and looked newly refurbished. Room was really hot we were on the top floor but there was a big fan in the room which we appreciated. Iron and iron board in room and tea facilities. Breakfast was good, the bar and restaurant staff were lovely and the facilities looked amazing. Would return was a great location for town moor festival.

Hotel is average. My room felt like a student room in an HMO. Was nice to have a fridge but incredibly small space compared to other chains. Biggest knock was the noise: room 414 directly sits off the main route upstairs and the noise isolation borderline nonexistent. I was aware of the bar downstairs across the property and this wasn’t a huge issue as it quietened down at a reasonable time. However, anyone entering or leaving any room was very noticeable. Hotel is clean, minimally staffed as was in the extension rooms a short walk over the road from the main hotel and parking is extremely limited.

Rooms are nice, everything you need is there. Good bathroom. Fan in room which is needed! Rooms could be bigger. Issue with smell in room but quickly changed to another. A couple of flights of stairs if u have a heavy bag. Breakfast was ok, bacon wasn’t good but they even had gluten free bread which was great. I would go back as it’s very central

Stayed here in May on a Thursday night. Booked a room in the main hotel, after seeing reviews that some people ended up in a different building. There was a bit of faff about parking (not enough spaces for all the guests, so I had to be blocked in) but aside from that I thought it was a great room for a low price. The room was very clean, spacious and comfortable, with modern fittings. It was quiet and had a great night's sleep! Definitely exceeded my expectations.

booked classic room in main building. reception staff said standard was booked so was put on the external building. attic room double. have stayed in much bigger single rooms. wall light missing, paint chipped of bath panel, loose toilet flush, extremely warm with no fan. double parking allowed at rear so if you park first you will be blocked in. overall very poor experience. other hotels much nicer in same area.

Over the last 30yrs+and we have tried virtually all hotels in Jesmond, while visiting wife’s family/friends. Recently we (or just my wife) have been down in Newcastle virtually every week due to a sick relative. I booked, what I thought was a good deal, at the Cairns Hotel (which we have stayed at in the past). First of all the hotel Car Park is very limited in size and on arrival it was full, so we had to look around streets, local to hotel, for a space on our first night. These have a limited parking time so please be aware if using of when car needs to be moved in the morning! I had booked a Superior room and on arrival given keys to our room (209). This was smaller than I can remember, with one of the smallest bathrooms I have seen in a hotel of this level. I went down to reception and questioned level of room I had been given and was assured it was a Superior however they did have slightly bigger one's on the top floor, which she did offer me, but she commented they were fitted out the same. I opted to stay where we were to save hassle of having to get everything out of our room. Bedroom Comments: Bed was too soft and did not give much support for a good-nights sleep. Toilet positioned right against wall with shower cubicle right in front so impossible to sit on properly and only option was to sit sideways! Best part of this hotel is the restaurant (Sohe) and bar linked to hotel and these were both excellent and no issue with using these again, just not the hotel!

Roof leaked in our room when it rained and staff didn’t communicate to us properly about the car parking so we didn’t have access to our car on the final night of our stay, which affected our plans. They made no remedies and the lady who I was discussing the situation with was condescending and rude

Unusual set up in that the Cairn Hotel on Osborne Rd was not the building that our room ended up in! Website very misleading there is a 2nd hotel down the road and across the street called Carlton hotel- part of the Cairn Hotel group. Once we were finally buzzed in, turns out our room was up 3 steep flight of stairs and room itself OK but very, very warm. Has to be said very good value at just £45 for the one night.

Lovely hotel and great value for a large room, well furnished and decorated with quality fittings, only comment is that this is starting to look a bit tired in places, we had room 313 and the shower was coming out of a ragged hole in the ceiling, the flooring was worn through in places and the sink cracked with a loose tap. Minor refurb and a lick of paint and it would be 5 star all the way. Staff efficient and pleasant and free parking a bonus.
