Overview

The Great Western Hotel is praised for its stunning views and convenient location near beaches, the train station, and town centre. Guests enjoy the spacious rooms, friendly staff, and excellent breakfast with sea views. The hotel's on-site restaurant and bar, with an amazing terrace, are also highlighted. However, parking is a significant issue, requiring pre-booking and incurring charges. Limited on-site parking and the need to pre-book may cause inconvenience, and some rooms may be noisy due to fans or traffic. Some guests mention that the hotel is showing signs of wear and tear.

Stunning views from the hotel. Great little touch from the hotel when you pre book parking they put your name on a parking space so you know which one is yours.

Nice room, ckean and tidy. You need to pre book parking (was not told or didnt get an enail to say this) so had to find side street or railway station to park.

Beautiful stay for my birthday surfing trip. My room was wonderful with views of the sea. The food and drinks in the restaurant were lovely and faultless. Helpful and friendly staff that took their time to serve you and didn’t rush the service. This was fantastic to see and is rare to find now. Hotel needs painting and the bedroom windows could be cleaned but apart from those minor decorative things it was wonderful. Pre book and pay for a parking space at the hotel as they are limited and chargeable.

The hotel is located in a beautiful place, but during the night, the noise of the fans outside the building and the traffic of cars deny the opportunity to have a complete rest. The staff and parking were excellent

The hotel is a beautiful old hotel with an interesting layout. My room was huge but was a long walk from reception. The bar/restaurant terrace is definitely the best part of the hotel, the views are amazing, however Michelle on reception was amazing. She went above and beyond to get me a taxi to a remote area and must have spent 30 mins in her attempts whilst also dealing with other customers. I really can’t commend her help enough.

Location was key for this property, perfectly convenient for the beaches, station, bus stop, and town. Comfortable room (albeit with a view of the bins! Someone has to I guess!) Had breakfast one morning of the stay and the staff, service and food was great and had a lovely sea view when eating. I loved being able to try a different beach (each within 10 mins walk) for morning yoga practice each day, also we walked part of the SW Coast Path and the bus stop to Padstow was right outside the hotel. Only issue was parking: a fuss about payment was made prior to our stay, which turned out to be unnecessary. We arrived to find a reserved parking space but were then told we needed to move to the overflow car park. When leaving the car park you have to enter a code but have to get out of the car and run round to enter the code. Nevertheless we'd stay again when returning to Newquay!

Location was good, hotel basic and clean. Lights didnt work in room above bed, toilet roll holder coming away from the wall. Be careful which room you get allocated we were next to a awful extractor fan outside which keep us awake so had a horredous night sleep, we only booked one night luckily else would of asked to move or a refund. (Room 210 for reference) When mentioning this to reception about the extractor fan all i got was a 'sorry about that' Booking wise, the email with all the details about parking etc..arrive 48hrs after our stay. Phoned to book parking as i had scoped out the website myself, took 5 calls over a 24hr period to get through, and no one phoned back from my answerphone message i initially left. Was told parking would be allocated on arrival, when i arrived they asked if i found my bay ok? I responded with i was told you couldnt tell me which bay. So conflicting procedures there. Breakfast- amazing great selection and the views were amazing too, staff friendly and helpful. If booking here upgrade and request a quiet room away from those fans.
