Grand Naniloa Hotel Hilo - a Doubletree by Hilton

We arrived a little early for check in, our room wasn't ready (which to be fair we knew this may be the case). By the time it WAS ready it was almost an hr past check in time. Upon getting to the room, we got hot in tbe face with what can only be described at horrific body odor of persons morally opposed to bathing (perhaps this was the check in delay?). Once the room aired out it was pleasant and was the beautiful ocean view we requested. The room did have small cockroaches that seemed to go wild at night. The staff addressed this as soon as we reported it. Long black hairs on tbe bathroom floor and on the pillow cases that are not mine (im blonde) was a little unnerving. On site restaurant was good and staff were accommodating. Free daily drinks is a nice touch (2 from the bar daily, from a specific menu, and a coffee water and juice station available as oftern as you'd like in the lobby) and cookies on arrival was appreciated. Valet parking only at $25 a day, unless you're lucky enough to find street parking which we were. Overall a pleasant trip with great staff, but the cleanliness of the room left a little to be desired.

Not impressed. Have spent years of travel to foreign countries and never experienced bed-bugs in my life. Welcome to Hilo Hilton bed-bug hotel. Staff was great and gracious and accommodating but the hotel needs serious upgrade and renovation. Hopefully as a Hilton Honors Member they will read this review and take it to heart. Aloha

We stayed at this hotel as a part of our trip to Hawaii. It is close to the airport which was a huge plus after a long day of travel. The ground is beautiful and well kept. A restaurant is on site and the food and service was really good. I loved my room and the view. Bed was very comfortable and room is spacious. I would definitely recommend this hotel and I would definitely stay here again.

Nice and quiet. Only problem was they tried to charge me for valet parking when it was already included.

The hotel lobby had complimentary water and juice - tea/coffee which was lovely and we were given drink tickets for the bar and restaurant as an added perk. We even received a free room upgrade that gave us a balcony and the view was wonderful. Suggestions for the hotel - have more water refill stations outside of just the gym. Allow for a self-service parking instead of valet only. And consider limiting late night pool hours- it got loud and, bathroom upgrades - they are a bit dated.

What I liked ... The staff was awesome and accommodating, the room was very nice, the facility was clean, the balcony view was beautiful, the grounds were pretty, the daily drink tickets were amazing, and it was nice that there was parking space available so we could avoid the valet parking fee. What I didn't like ... We didn't know that we had to ask ahead of time for our room to be cleaned (it would have at least been nice to be told), the pool was rather small for the size of the site, the area was a bit sketchy, it would have been nice to allow us to use the drink tickets on mocktails, the parking lot was atrocious (at the very least, the potholes should be filled), the water in the shower never got hot (at best it was lukewarm), and a big negative is that there were no diet drinks in any of the vending machines - there should have been at least one choice. Overall we had a nice stay in Hilo and I would probably stay there again.

It was very family friendly. There was mold around the bathtub but overall very clean. Everyone was kind and wonderful. It was very convenient to travel to all the major tourist destinations on that side of the island.

Very limited value for the money overall. Use the free hotel owned free parking across the street and don't fall into the valet trap. It's very close and safe. The valet parking service needs to be improved. The valet parking staff occupy the full entrance and are rude if you don't use them. They need to provide more space for the guests to use the entrance and to load/unload.
