Essentially a weekly motel where people live. Not an actual HOTEL in the sense of anything remote to a resort or traveler friendly property.

It’s an older hotel that the people are very friendly. The view from my room is wonderful & view is also. . And they’re very helpful with parking when the lot is full. I love the little kitchenette and the fridge raider and microwave. But if people want a fancy updated hotel then they will not be happy

Best value for my dollar at any hotel in Hawaii I've been to. Convenient, nice staff, free parking, close to all attractions and what did it for me is that the laundry, dryers, and soda machines are at a low price. They could have jacked up the price a little bit if they wanted too but they just want to be fair. Highly recommended for your stay. They also have 24 hour Security too.

The hotel and room were very clean. The staff were generally helpful. There are security cameras everywhere. The location is fine if you want to stay in Hilo. There are some things to see in the area. There are banyan trees lining the road. Be careful parking under them in the small parking lot as they drop a lot of large sticks and other debris. For the cost of the room, there is much to be desired of the hotel. The hotel is old and needs updating. The room and bathroom were small. Part of the bedroom is a kitchen, but few things are provided to use the kitchen (one fork, two spoons, etc.). There is no Wi-Fi in the room and it was hard to get connection using our phones. The tv kept dropping the few channels that were provided. The pool is small and uninviting with only a couple of old upright plastic chairs next to it. The view from the hotel and rooms is very “meh.” You can see an open bay, a container ships dock, and the roof and sides of a very old building next door. We cut our stay short choosing to stay in a much nicer condo with great amenities and close to everything for just a little more. However, when we checked out, the owner would not give me our checkout paper work, or a confirmation email or number. She said she would “send” it. We called Expeditia and we were stronger encouraged to go back and get a final receipt which we did. I am glad we did as when I looked at other reviews, this has apparently led to problems for customers charged for nights not used.

I stayed twice. Once on the parking lot side of other hotel and once with a view. The common issue was airport noise and one window with just a screen. On waterside it really blew cold air in all the time. Plus that room stunk of cigarettes. I think the workers/owners live below and smoke. And that come thru the screen only window. TV channels also stunk. I stayed at Wild Ginger too. This was WAY better! Tip - when looking at the map, turn it so the land looks like a C not a U or you will never find this place.

The three star rating is only compared to true 5-star luxury resorts. If you are looking for a quiet, clean place to stay with very friendly staff, this is it. Just know there is no A/C, but the ceiling fan plus the floor fan are fine, along with the louvres you can open to let in the outside breeze. Love listening to the waves coming into the bay all night. Only true downside, if you can’t do stairs, is that there is no elevator. 25 steps up from the parking lot to our 2nd floor room. No food on site, but we took full advantage of the kitchenette in the room.

This property provides a place to sleep and a good hot shower. Apparently this is all you get for $160 in the Hilo area. Very friendly staff, good security. No real complaints except wishing travel to Hilo was more affordable.
