Overview

The Hilton Garden Inn Monterey offers spacious rooms and a pleasant pool area, with guests praising the comfort of the beds and the friendliness of the staff. However, several reviews mention significant drawbacks. The parking fee is frequently criticised, with many feeling it should be included in the room rate. Additionally, the hotel has undergone recent renovations, and some aspects, including parking accessibility and elevator function, seem to have been affected. There are also concerns about the hotel's cleanliness and the lack of sufficient lighting in the rooms.

The layout and trying to get to your room with parking was awful. The light in the bathroom was constantly turning off while you tried to shower. The motion sensor was horrible! No hot water for the shower, barely able to get warm water. My worst experience at a Hilton!

We stayed here in August 2024 on our visit to Monterey. The hotel is located just out of town, but in a convenient location. The room was OK and had a very nice bathroom. The beds were comfortable and we slept well. We had a balcony, but didn't use it. There was an outdoor pool in the central area. We had breakfast one morning which was quite nice, but not a very good selection. The hotel charged $19 for parking, which I felt could have been included in the price.

The staff was very nice and helpful. The parking garage access to the rooms was very inconvenient and very far to walk. The breakfast options were expensive and I feel like it should’ve been a free continental breakfast at least. Or better options.

Close driving proximity to everything Monterey & Carmel. Not walking distance, but if you have a car you’ll be about a 8-10 min drive to all main attractions. This hotel is new and modern, rooms and bathrooms are nice and large. Only concern is the rooms don’t have too much lighting and parking availability can be scarce if you’re arriving late in the night. Other than that this is a great option / location for the price. ***If you’re looking to be walking distance to Carmel or the Aquarium you’ll be paying double maybe triple for your nights stay at hotels that are in walking distance to the tourists spots. If you have a car and can drive under 10 mins to every hot spot book here!!

We stayed here for two nights. We checked in in the evening and then took the BART from the airport into San Francisco the next day and then flew out the following day. Very convenient. Shuttle to/from airport easy to use and convenient. Rooms are a little dated and showing their age but still In good/clean shape. I’m picky so that means something. Very convenient to airport and BART station.

Unexpected parking fees charged at checkin (including an apparent occupancy tax on the parking spot). Sliding door to the balcony only opened less than half way and was otherwise broken. Room smelled so heavily of cleaning fluid such as Lysol it was hard to breathe. Bath gel in shower was empty and had to get a maid in the hall to replace it on day two. Only two pieces on kleenex in the box in the bathroom with no replacement available.King sized bed with a top sheet that would barely fit a queen sized bed. No doors on closet and finally, no maid service so we had to make our own bed (come on Hilton, the pandemic is over!). At almost $300/night this was not worth it.

The property itself was nice except there is no coffee shop or restaurant to sit down in until 5 so we had to go elsewhere to eat. The room was clean but lacked adequate lighting. Fumbling around in the dark after sunrise was the norm. Bring a lantern. One thing that is tough is if you are elderly you must move all bags yourself. You start at the underground parking, go to the elevator and haul your stuff to your room. For the younger generation, it's not a big deal.
