The view from the room was beautiful. Unfortunately, we were up the mountain and the only way to restaurants, grocery stores, and areas to walk was to take a taxi, $30 roundtrip. The airport is 5 minutes away, but the cost of the taxi was $30 one way. There is no sidewalk, & the street has hairpin and blind turns, with traffic driving on the left (if youre from the US, you're used to driving on the right). It is very unsafe to attempt walking down to town. I assumed it would be walkable, so it became very expensive to go out at all. Food and groceries are very expensive, much more than in the US. Power outages happen, sometimes for hours at a time, leaving you with no a/c or fan ventilation. The walls in the unit allowed sound to transmit easily, so noise from others was a problem. There are no restaurants or grocery stores nearby, and it is not recommended to drink the tap water as it is from a cistern, so we had to get a taxi to go to the store, to lug water and groceries back to the room. The pool is very small, and not conducive to swimming. There are stray cats, dogs and chickens everywhere, as well as rats in the garbage area. We will not go back. The staff were as helpful as they could be, but this is no place for a vacation.

Closely located to airport and not too far from Frenchtown which is a busy spot for dining.

We stayed at Sunset Gardens for 3 nights as a family trip in St Thomas. The moment we arrived on the property I was a little confused if we were even in the right place. The parking was so small. There is no lobby, only a tiny office. The lady who checked us in was so sweet and helpful. It was a shame that there wasn't anything she could do about the building which just made me feel uncomfortable. The railings near the steps towards laundry were rotting off. Our room for a family of 4 was so small. No elbow room at all. The TV was Dish and sometimes worked and sometimes did not. The bathroom was just as small. I'd have to twist awkwardly just to reach the toilet paper. There was no sink space. If I put anything down on the vanity it would fall off. But the shower was a real piece of work. It looked ok, but the water temperature was the confusing part. I would have it on a lukewarm or cool temperature, and without warning and without touching the faucet setting, the temperature of the water would heat up so much I'd get burned. Then , the backdoor to the balcony was so hard to close, I'd have to slam it just to close and lock it. One night when we were there at 5 in the morning, the power went out and all fans, AC shut off. Got very hot very fast. And to top it off, the other guests were so loud during all hours of the night, talking, blasting music, laughing. Just overall, I rate my stay 2 stars. The only positive was the people who worked check in were very nice.

We were really happy with this hotel. The location is gorgeous - it's on the top of the hill and the view from the balcony is amazing. This place was also really close to the airport, in fact, our friends, who didn't have a car the first day, easily walked there from the airport. The hotel manager is a really nice lady, she was super-helpful and wonderful to deal with. We planned to stay there only first night, before taking a ferry to St. John, but then we stayed our last night as well, before flying back.

The last time we were there, it was great, this time, we were confronted by too many barker s(Come in and see what we have) Went to eat at the Greenhouse on the harbor and was confronted by a man , who came and sat by us and ended by asking my husband for money, after I left. Next time was confronted on the street by a person in his 20's wanting us to buy him a drink, real pushey. We dont like this so it is best for us not to go back there, this is why we stayed in 3 days of our trip. The prices are not as cheap as they used to be. Liquor is cheap but that is a hassle to try to bring home. Customs are a hassle also, we are old, 74 and 78 and my husband has a pacemaker, so he cant go thru the scanner, and no one helps me and we dont look like smugglers or terriost. Traveling on a vacation, is no longer fun, when you spend hard earned dollars, you should not have to go thru what airport sercurity puts you. They are the rudists people and if they dont like there jobs, they need to quit, and let some of the unemployed who would make them looks sick, work. Sorry, we just didnt expect this trip to cost more than we planned. We will be staying home for a long time.

The view is amazing! Deb is very friendly and helpful. The property is pretty dated and the beds not very comfortable. Could be cleaner but not bad. Pretty cheap price comparitivly and is ok if you are budget traveling. I would stay here again if traveling on a tight budget.

On arrival, I looked at my husband and said "what did you get us into?" The property is still in the final stage of construction, even the office is not complete and hard to locate. After getting checked in and going to our room, we found it small, but clean and comfortable, but very small. Furnishings are a little outdated for such a new property. Maid service is extra! Laundry on property though! We spoke with the property manager about the best way to get around since we chose not to rent a car. We hiked down the hill, bought groceries and grabbed a taxi back up to the property. We settled in and went to the pool for a swim. This is when everything changed for me and was truly the beginning of a memorable vacation. The residents and the staff are very friendly and helpful, plus lots of fun. We truly enjoyed the peace and tranquility, as well as the views of the harbors and watching the cruise ships come and go. We loved grilling by the pool and chatting with others on vacation, as well as those living there. This is definitely not a resort, definitely not on the beach, since it sits up on a mountain, but close enough, at least for us. Poolside WIFI access, was a pain, especially when it rained! Yet, I honestly believe that by staying at Sunset Gardens, we made more life long friends, and memories, and definitely experienced more of the island than if we had stayed at one of the resorts. I will be following their progress and look forward to seeing it in its completed state, as we will definitely be coming back.
