Mainstay Suites Wilmington

We booked a king suite for 1 night before an early flight out of ILM. Luckily, I didn’t have to be in the room for very long. Check in was fairly uneventful. Once we headed up to our room, we noticed that the carpet in the halls looked rather worn/dirty. The elevator sounds in need of repair & was questionable at best. I was nervous using it. Once inside the room I was overtaken with the stench of cigarette smoke. It was awful. There’s no way the room was cleaned & no one noticed that. We had to be up at 3am and it was after 10 so we just decided to try to rest. I also had Lysol packed in my bag so we hosed the room down & that helped a little. I woke up at 1:30 itching like crazy. I never found any bugs but both my husband & I were covered with a rash by the time we got up. I tried to shower a little before 3, but wound up standing in water in a tub that wouldn’t drain. The final kicker was trying to make some coffee only to find that there were no disposable cups. Given the rest of our experience, I wasn’t going to bet on the cleanliness of the mugs in the cabinet! Overall, I would never stay here again.

It was sufficient. The toilet flapper was broken and they fixed it the next day (so I took the tank lid off to flush the whole first night). They were out of shampoo. The elevator broke during our stay. The pool was across the parking lot and shared with the neighboring hotel. We left a night early.

The hotel was clean but could use some updates. The staff was friendly. The breakfast was underwhelming. The pool was small and in the parking lot. I didn't go in it. Overall, it was an ok stay.

I loved the part where I entered my information (including my date of birth) and got turned away at the front desk for not being 21. My group and I traveled from three hours away and had to consider abandoning our trip altogether after this. Thankfully the hotel across the street was willing to help us out. I understand the receptionist was following procedure, but the manager not bothering to come out of his office to help us out or remedy the situation showed a lack of care (the receptionist asked the manager for the protocol to follow).

Hotel was near many restaurants on the main strip. Buses were easily accessible and airport was nearby. Hotel itself is very basic but it’s clean and staff are welcoming. Breakfast options should be better given the nightly price. There is no pool onsite. You have to walk across to next property. 😫Pool was very small and it’s not open in April.

Staff was awesome, the carpets in the hallways need a good cleaning. Breakfast was very very basic, less than most hotels. Room was spacious, beds were comfy. It’s an older hotel but maintained pretty good. I didn’t understand the people washing cars in the back parking lot lol. I’d stay again, price was great

Negatives: Rooms are not upto the mark. The exterior of refrigerator is dirty The kitchen floor was sticky. Pull out couch was not cleaned at all, it was filthy. Breakfast hours are from 6:30-9:30 which is odd especially during weekends. Positives: Breakfast was good, plenty of take-away options. The outdoor dining option is nice. Pool is shared with a neighboring hotel. Beds were comfortable. Plenty of parking, plenty of restaurants nearby.

Staff was awesome, very friendly and helpful. Room was comfortable and clean. Last minute booking for a cancelled flight and all went smoothly.
